After
the weekend workshop, most participants went back
home while a few stayed behind to use their freshly-acquired
knowledge in practical working situations. This arrangement
was mutually beneficial for both the volunteers, who
enriched their skills and
got to stay in the country a few extra days, and for
the retreat owner, who got to see permaculture projects
instituted on the property.
Jason,
Nathalie, Pierre, Anna, volunteering carpenter Ralf
Shumann, Chas and Jillian worked together on several
projects that had been discussed in general during
the course of the weekend. They created a large vegetable
and flower garden next to the main house using the
sheet mulch method, began
an outdoor solar shower
that would give hot showers in the summertime, planted
a 'living fence' to
screen the spring-fed pond, and went on a tree and
vine shopping excursion to the WindMill
Point Farm Nursery. Most of the work days pictured
took place between Monday and Thursday.
